Should I Repair the Garage Door on My Own or Hire a Professional?

As a homeowner, you most likely look at repairs and wonder if they are something you can do on your own. You know, because you want to save money and you feel that it’s the right thing to do. But is it really the best thing for your home? That’s what you truly need to decide at the end of the day. Let me ask this question: Do you know anything about repairing garage doors? If not, then why would you even consider fixing one on your own? This feels like a foolish endeavor to me, and it ultimately seems like you’ll end up spending more money than you would if you just hired a professional. Because here’s what’s probably going to happen in this situation… You’ll spend the money to buy all the supplies to fix your garage door. You’ll buy tools, materials, you may even hire an assistant to temporarily help you with this project. But what ultimately happens in the end? You don’t end up fixing the garage door. The job turns out to be too much for you to handle. Even with an assistant, you just can’t seem to fix the broken door. So what do you have to do now? Well, now you have to hire the technician that you should’ve called from the beginning. Let them come over to your home, look at the garage door and determine whether the door is actually worth fixing.

Here’s what may even end up happening… The professional garage door repair person might come to your home, look at your door and tell you that it’s not worth it to fix it. This person might observe that a garage door, garage door opener or any other particular part might need replacing altogether. And if a professional tells you that you should forgo repairs and just replace the garage door entirely, I think it’s in your best interest to listen to them. I know you might want to make this decision on your own, but you need to take good advice and use it when it’s being offered to you. Don’t just think the repair person is trying to make a sale. Truly, if this is a concern, you may not have called on the right people for the job.

Look to a professional with a strong reputation, and know that they’ve worked hard to establish that reputation, and won’t risk damaging it by giving bad advice just to get a sale. Good business people want to make money, to be sure, but they understand that in the long-term, the best way to do that is by giving the customer what’s best for them, at the right price. If the professional you call understands business, they’ll want to steer you toward a decision that will make you happy.

At Compass we hope to be earn your business and become your company of choice for all repairs, installation and maintenance. Give us a call today!

  3. GO ENERGY EFFICIENT FOR MORE SAVINGS. UPDATING TO A NEW MODEL DOOR MAKES YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT. THAT MEANS LOWER UTILITY BILLS, WHICH IS A GREAT REASON TO UPGRADE. IF YOU LIVE IN AN AREA WITH A MILDER CLIMATE, OR YOUR GARAGE IS DETACHED, OPT FOR A LESS-EXPENSIVE, YET ATTRACTIVE, NON-INSULATED DOOR
